Time to Kick It

Lily is still riding high from the end of last soccer season.
All because of that one "goal" she scored.
I am hoping the excitement continues because soccer season has once again begun.

So we got dressed and headed out to the soccer fields.
See the pink jacket Lily's wearing?
She picked it out because
"It looks like a uniform and
you need a uniform to play soccer"...

Sophia just wanted to wear purple...

Tonight Lily practiced with a lot of the same kids from last year.
It was nice to see all of those familiar faces...
Sophia found a new friend to play with.
They were immediately inseparable...
Until the little girl climbed to the top bleacher.
Sophia was told not to go any higher up.
These are the pitiful looks I got...

Then they just moved over to the bench...
My pink faced Lily post practice...
Lily practiced hard tonight.
I am hoping that this new season starts the way the last one ended.

Tiny Gymnast

I'm pretty sure we will NOT be receiving any calls from the U.S Olympic Team anytime soon, but that's ok because look how happy she is...

Transformation Central

Hello, my name is Carrie and I am a room makeover-aholic.

Along with adding some pizazz to that empty wall in our family room and redoing the girls room, I am also focused on these other rooms.

Mission #1: Operation Declutter Playroom...
This room will also see new floors...
Courtesy of this little white dog who ruined the carpet...
Mission #2: Make guest room more inviting...
This "tv stand" will be repainted a happy shade of green...
More decluttering (I didn't realize I had so much of it)...
This dresser will be transformed from country natural to modern black...
This room will be finished off with new floors (thanks once again to the dog), a new bed frame and new bedding.
Someone please come visit us soon...
Mission #3: Keep the Ucky Buggies Away...
Part of the reason we loved this house so much is because of this really big covered patio.
We just didn't realize that the mosquitos we get could carry small children away.

One major improvement we will be doing here is getting a screened in patio
( I am beyond excited about this one)...
Once we get the screens, the girls can finally play in their playhouse outside...
We will also be saying goodbye to this bland patio furniture.
It will be replaced by a comfy couch and two glider rockers.
EEEK!  I am so pumped...
It may take some time, but I promise lots of pictures as soon as everything is beautified.

By the way, hopefully there will be one more change you will be seeing in the next day or two.
A new Blog page.

I can't stand all of this excitement!

Speak to Me

Sophia's speech is something that has been bothering me for quite some time.
She tries to say things.
I try to understand.
But more often than not,
I still cannot decipher her words.
When Lily is around, I often turn to her to act as translator.
It works about 95% of the time.
But enough is enough.
I should not need a translator to understand my three year old.
It's time to get some much needed help.

Today we were scheduled for a speech test.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pretty sure I knew what the outcome was going to be.

When we arrived, they took us to a cubicle.
Melissa, the very kind speech therapist, told me that she was going to take Sophia through a series of tests.
Because of her age, Sophia may get a bit bored, so Melissa was going to get as far as she could.

Before starting the test, Melissa prefaced me by saying that if she noticed a pattern early on while testing Sophia, that she would stop the preliminary tests.  There was no sense in wasting any time.

Sophia sat down with Melissa and began her testing.
After about nine questions, Melissa stopped and said that she noticed an obvious "g" pattern in Sophia's speech.
She also informed me that Sophia appears to be forming her words at the back of her mouth.  (Normally you form your words at the front).

She proceeded to ask me if Sophia had a binkie.
Rather guiltily, I replied with a quiet "Yes".
Melissa then went on to explain to me that it's not so much a problem that she has a binkie,
but the problem lies in her trying to talk with her binkie in.
That is the reason she forms her words at the back of her mouth because her tongue has no where else to go.

Thankfully Melissa informed me that Sophia's speech pattern can be fixed.
She will however need some speech therapy.
She must undergo another round of testing.
Once finished, I will find out how often Sophia must meet with a speech therapist.

It makes me feel good knowing Sophia is going to be getting the help she needs.
It must be so frustrating not being understood.
